How to fix
Configure an extension cooldown of at least 168 hours (7 days) in the editors you use, or turn off automatic extension updates. You only need to configure the editors you have installed.
Open the settings file with Preferences: Open User Settings (JSON) from the Command Palette. ~ means your home folder.
Visual Studio Code, Insiders, and VSCodium
Add this setting to your user settings.json:
"extensions.autoUpdateDelay": 168
The delay is measured in hours and requires version 1.125 or newer. It holds back automatic updates of installed extensions; extensions you install yourself are not delayed. The settings file is at:
- Visual Studio Code:
~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/settings.json - Visual Studio Code - Insiders:
~/Library/Application Support/Code - Insiders/User/settings.json - VSCodium:
~/Library/Application Support/VSCodium/User/settings.json
Alternatively, turn off automatic extension updates with "extensions.autoUpdate": false and update extensions manually.
Official documentation: VS Code settings: extensions.autoUpdateDelay.
Cursor
Add this setting to ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/settings.json:
"extensions.installCooldownHours": 168
Cursor measures the cooldown in hours and applies it to both new installs and updates.
Alternatively, turn off automatic extension updates with "extensions.autoUpdate": false.
Official documentation: Cursor: Extensions.
