How Pareto Desktop keeps you safe

Here are a few completely realistic scenarios that can happen if you have your Linux device's security misconfigured.

😱

Mike forgot to configure LUKS disk encryption when reinstalling his Ubuntu, then someone stole his Lemur Pro, and now they have all of his photos, documents, and business files.

😨

Suzie turned off the ufw firewall to debug a router, did not remember to turn it back on, and accidentally exposed her local webserver to the entire Starbucks network.

😦

James lent his ThinkPad to mom for a weekend, forgot he enabled automatic login for her convenience, then found his son playing on his company's Slack.

😫

Paul needed to turn on automatic login to test a new window manager, then forgot to turn it back on again, and now his mischievous cousin is posting on his Mastodon account.

😞

Marie has been postponing a system update and got hacked because she was not running a recent browser version with all security fixes applied.

😠

Mia used her Librem 14 for a presentation, disabled automatic screen locking, forgot to re-enable it, only to find coworkers having fun with her Discord chats.

The device owner keeps full control over the device and the app. Only the following data is sent to Pareto Cloud every eight hours:

  • The list of passed and failed checks
  • Unique device ID & device name
  • Linux and app version
  • Date and time of last check

Pareto Desktop is open source.
